Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace

In 2010, Congress passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. A key provision of this Act requires that as of January 2014 virtually all Americans have health insurance.

To facilitate enhanced access to affordable health plans, health insurance marketplaces have been created throughout the country. On October 1, 2013, the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace, called Get Covered Illinois, opened, offering Illinois residents access to a wide variety of health plans.
